Lyrics

Itni Muddat Baad Mile Ho with English Translation

Itni muddat baad mile ho
Ah, after awhile we finally toast

Kin sochon mein ghum rahte ho?
What thoughts are you in lost?

Tez hawa ne mujse poocha
The fast wind questioned me

“Raeth pe kya likhte rahte ho?”
“What are you trying to write on the sand?”

Kaun si baat hai tum mein aisi?
What is so special about you?

Itni achche kyon lagte ho?
Why do I like you so much?

Hum se na poocho hijr ke kisse
Don’t you ask me my tales of separation

Apni kaho, ab tum kaise ho?
Tell me your story, “Now, how are you?”

  1. Thanks for bringing out this beautiful translation.
Helps much for those who do not know Urdu.

I looked up for the meaning of ‘hijr’, and I got to your translation of the full song.
I suggest a slight change as below can help those who are familiar with the usual spoken English than thr poetic one.

    – “Hum se na poocho hijr ke kisse”
(Don’t you ask me my tales of separation); instead it can be translated as “Do not ask me about the issues of separation”.
    ……
    Then,
‘Apni kaho, ab tum kaise ho?’
    can be:
“Tell me about yourself, “Now, how are you?”
    …….

The previous line can be read like this:
    ‘Itni achche kyon lagte ho?
    – “Why do you appear so lovely?”

This is just my take. 🙂
